How to Get There

By Car:

The Hunter Valley is an easy drive from Sydney. Head north on the freeway and National Highway 1 towards Newcastle and then turn onto Route 82 to Cessnock. It's approximately a two-hour drive but, as the Hunter Valley is spread out, you will need a good map to find your way around when you are there. Continue on the New England Highway to Singleton and the Upper Hunter region.

If you don't have your own car, hiring one from Newcastle is a good idea, firstly to avoid Sydney traffic and secondly to have your own transport while in the Hunter. This will allow you to visit all the out-of-the-way places, but always designate a non-drinking driver if you are wine-tasting.

By Air:

Cessnock has a light aircraft airport available for charter and scenic flights. Visit www.huntervalleyaviation.com.au for all details.

By Train:

Take the train from Sydney Central to Maitland or Singleton. Or take a train from Central to Newcastle and a bus/coach to Cessnock. See Country Link's website for information www.countrylink.info/timetables.

By Bus/Coach:

There are day tours www.visitours.com.au from Sydney to the Hunter, but the area warrants at least a few days to take in some wineries, adventure and food experiences; not to mention the superb scenery. Visit www.aattc.org.au for Newcastle and Hunter Valley coach timetables.
